    1. Old Data Create New Problems Legacies can be good or bad. The legacy of a good brand name, for instance, is a huge asset for any business. Legacy data fall into the other camp. Much of these data were written by hand, sometimes in assembly code, and almost all of them run on outdated operating systems and hardware that is no longer supported by the vendors who made it. All of this is very inefficient. It takes up valuable real estate and runs on servers that draw more current than new machines--which also require more cooling--and no one seems to be quite sure what needs to be kept and what can be discarded.
