Federal IT's Cloud Efforts Probed by Congress

U.S. CIO Vivek Kundra and others give an update on the progress, pros and cons of government's move to the cloud, as Congress weighs the benefits of data center consolidation against security considerations. Just as many enterprises are weighing the benefits and the costs of adopting cloud computing for some or all of their infrastructure, so too is the U.S. federal government. Of course, it's going to be a long and complex process to revamp government IT policy and processes to before U.S. agencies can fully leverage the cloud.
Federal CIO Vivek Kundra today gave a House committee an update on the government's progress in migrating to a more efficient IT organization, while also facing questions about the cloud's long-term payoff and security concerns -- both areas familiar to private-sector CIOs looking to justify a transition to a cloud-based infrastructure.
