The Planet, the global leader in IT hosting, today announced the opening of the latest addition to its Dallas D6 data center. The new phase adds 12,000 square feet to the company’s operations, bringing The Planet’s total data center footprint to 167,000 square feet. With an enhanced design that completely separates hold and cold air, the company estimates the data center's "coefficient of efficiency" will be approximately 1.5, which is below the 1.6 "ideal" ranking. The coefficient of efficiency is an EPA- and Uptime Institute-recognized measurement of the total power necessary to operate a data center divided by its critical power, which is the energy required to operate its servers.
