Sweet deals lure major data centers Politicians and economic development officials have given hundreds of companies millions of dollars in subsidies over the years, but those incentives are chump change compared with what's being offered in an effort to lure data centers to the region. Yahoo opened a data center in Lockport in August that involves some $200 million in tax breaks -- including no property tax payments for 10 years -- plus $58 million in electricity discounts from the state Power Authority and a $10 million federal stimulus grant.
