Obama says Cloud and Data Center Consolidation Will Help Curb IT Costs In its 2012 federal budget proposal, the Obama administration has asserted that cloud computing and data center consolidation will play a significant role in curbing IT costs. The administration's proposal allocotes $79.5 billion for IT costs for fiscal 2012, which begins October 1, which would be a 1.9 increase over fiscal 2010. Meanwhile, the current fiscal year's IT spending is currently under Continuing Resolutions, with the latest resolution gives the Federal government enough funding to run through March 4. According to the administration, it is able to keep IT spending nearly at a constant for a while thanks to savings of more than $3 billion from IT consolidation and a planned migration to cloud computing approach.
