1. In fact, data center energy use is rising at such a high rate that the trend could spur consumer surcharges for data use. Imagine getting hit with a fee for posting on Twitter or Facebook, buying gifts online, or paying bills on the Web. Think about it: We pay package delivery companies a surcharge for the fuel used to transport our packages.
