    1. Going the Platinum Way Gold is passé. The platinum award, considered to be the highest level of certification available through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program adopts a checklist to validate the greenness of a facility and is a points based system. The facilities are rated on energy conservation, recycled materials etc. When thinking of a data center it is hard to imagine that it could be energy efficient, but there are methods to achieve energy efficiency in data centers. Recently, the US Green Building Council (USGBC) awarded a LEED Platinum certification to Digital Realty (DLR) for an upcoming data center in Silicon Valley which will be occupied by Nvidia (NVDA), a company specializing in chip making.
