A number of enterprise data centers built over the past five years have gained attention because they are considered ‘green’. You only have to look at Facebook, Google and Yahoo!, all of which are using innovative and environmentally friendly cooling, building on brownfield sites and investing in renewable energy.
And over the past two years colocation players have also started to make green headlines.
Capgemini opened its Merlin data center inthe UK last year with an expected PUE of 1.1. Telecity opened its Condorcet data center in Paris, which sends heat into an arboretum being used to predict the effects of climate change. EvoSwitch opened a data center in Amsterdam promising a low carbon footprint, and a number of new entrants, including Verne Global (which announced what is supposed to be one of the 'greenest' data centers in the world just this week) and Deep Green, are building out ...
