    1. Data centers move Italian Army closer the Cloud Data center design and build company Italtel, with Cisco, has constructed two data centers for the Italian Army in Rome and Padua. The data centers, which use Cisco switching and computing technology, are the first step in a major IT refresh for the Italian Army, which is moving towards a cloud computing environment. Italtel CEO Stefano Pileri refered to the data center as ‘nodes of concentration and virtualization’ that he said will allow the Italian Army to carry out consolidation plans and virtualize its computing resources with a view to reducing its physical server count and removing network complexity. “The paradigm of cloud computing – reinforced with next-generation IP networks, which can ensure safety and reliability of access, management and virtualization – is one of the key pieces of the path of innovation proposed by Italtel to businesses and government agencies,” Pileri said.
