    1. Aiming At Cisco, HP Grabs 3Com Its $2.7 billion acquisition of the networking vendor could give HP new ammunition in its fight for the data center. Hewlett-Packard was less than pleased when networking giant Cisco announced that it would invade the server market last March. Now, HP is returning the favor. On Wednesday, the computing giant announced it would spend $2.7 billion in cash to acquire Marlborough, Mass.-based 3Com ( COMS - news - people ), a networking firm that will ramp up HP's direct competition with Cisco's ( CSCO - news - people ) core market selling routers and network switches to large corporations and governments.
