1. Making sense out of the massive acquisitions and alliances struck by the enterprise systems vendors isn't easy. While it's clear that war has broken out, these companies are so large and complex that in some cases it's uncertain exactly who is fighting whom or in which geographical markets they're likely to clash. It's obvious this isn't business as usual, though. These are hostilities on a scale that hasn't been seen in the enterprise since the advent of the minicomputer in the 1980s and the commodity PC server in the 1990s.
