Rutgers project seeks energy efficiency for data facilities
It’s about the size of a large garden shed and sits on the roof of the two-story Engineering Building on Rutgers University’s Busch Campus. It’s topped by 16 solar panels and contains about 150 computer data servers the size of cafeteria trays. Researchers at Rutgers have high hopes for this modest structure. The solar-powered computing center, called “Parasol” will be used to gather data to be used in tackling a pressing environmental problem — the enormous energy consumption of computer data and processing centers.
