The Price Of Power Primary data centers often are located in the corporate headquarters or somewhere on the corporate campus, but backup often is located where the price of power to run the machines and to cool them is the lowest. So what does it cost around the U.S.? According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the price for industrial operations--basically those companies that can commit to long-term consumption--ranges from a high of 11 cents per kilowatt hour in New England to a low of 5 cents per kilowatt hour in the Deep South. Oklahoma came in lowest at just under 5 cents. The priciest was Hawaii at 29 cents. The price in New York is about 10 cents, while in California it costs about 11 cents. (Read Full Article)
