As companies continue to squeeze capital budgets in the post-recession economy, data center managers find themselves challenged to support more densely packed, heat-intensive equipment in a space that was never designed to accommodate the resulting thermal load. Without money to build new facilities or retrofit existing ones, IT must find creative ways to get more capacity out of the existing space. Computational fluid dynamics, or CFD, has emerged as an increasingly helpful tool for planning and analysis.
