Energy recovery wheels are an established technology in many markets, and now they are gaining popularity in data centers. These wheels rotate between a data center’s incoming outdoor air and the outgoing exhaust air, transferring some of the heat and moisture from one airstream to the other, depending on the season. Therefore, the incoming air is preconditioned, increasing the data center’s energy efficiency.
Sean Stephansson, Atlanta-based sales engineer for NovelAire Technologies (www.novelaire.com), says energy recovery wheels are a natural fit in any application where outdoor air is taken into a conditioned space.
