Michelle Ward reports The annual Green IT Expo, held in London today, offered attendees a chance to glean advice from the sponsoring companies and speakers, as the organisers continue to promote the importance of making IT more sustainable. Speakers provided delegates with a variety of ways to save energy and reduce carbon in their IT departments, such as switching to cloud computing and powering off computers at night. The firm message was that there needs to be change in the IT industry and that the sector has the opportunity to be a leader in the transition to a low carbon economy.

      New report says Britain could cut emissions to zero by 2030
      Britain could reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to zero by 2030 without having to resort to nuclear power, according to a new report. 'Zerocarbonbritain2030’, published today by the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) purports to provide the first comprehensive energy strategy for the UK. It puts forward a scenario where carbon emissions across all sectors would be reduced to zero within 20 years and where Britain would become a net exporter of renewable energy, while creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs.
