HP publishes first server metrics using TPC-Energy Hewlett-Packard has published the first results using the new TPC-Energy benchmark to measure energy efficiency of large computer systems. The metric, aimed at big database servers, is one of a handful of emerging tools as data centers try to get a handle on rising energy costs. HP tested two of its servers showing they used five to ten watts to perform a range of three existing tasks defined by the Transaction Processing Performance Council, a group of about 20 server vendors. The TPC announced plans for the energy metric a year ago and now expects most large computer vendors will ultimately publish energy efficiency data of their systems using the specification available online.
