Q9 Houses NYSE’s Financial Transaction Infrastructure at Toronto Data Center

Data center operator Q9 Networks announced on Thursday it has been selected by NYSE Technologies, the commercial technology unit of NYSE Euronext, to host a secure financial transaction infrastructure access center.
The agreement will extend the SFTI backbone into Q9′s Toronto data center, enabling Canadian customers to directly access services over the global capital markets network.
Developed in 2002 for the financial services community, SFTI is built to facilitate large quantities of electronic quotes, trades and market data traffic while ensuring reliable, ultra-low latency access to NYSE Euronext’s markets and other global trading venues and firms, including more than 1,300 market participants.

Data Center Firm Terremark Completes Pci Dss 2.0 Certification

Data center operator Terremark announced on Tuesday that it has received PCI DSS version 2.0 certification for six of its cloud-enabled data centers. This certification assures Terremark’s commercial and government customers that process credit card transactions that the supporting infrastructure is protected at the industry-recognized standard for payment-card security. Terremark’s announcement comes a month after it named chief operating officer Nelson Fonseca its new president. The cloud, colocation and managed hosting services delivered from Terremark’s facilities in Dallas, Miami, Sao Paolo, Amsterdam, Pleasanton, CA, and Culpeper, VA have all successfully maintained compliance with the PCI DSS for storing, processing and transmitting credit card information.

Web Host NaviSite Completes SSAE 16 SOC 1 Audit

This announcement comes less than a week after managed service provider Richardson Eyres added NaviCloud to its portfolio of services.

Major DreamHost Outage Hits VPS, Dedicated Hosting Customers

Many DreamHost customers are shopping around for a new web host after an outage on Sunday that lasted more than 12 hours, according to comments on its status page. This outage comes a week after DreamHost told customers to change their passwords after it detected unauthorized activity on its database.
According to an update on Sunday night from DreamHost CEO Simon Anderson, the downtime affected many of its dedicated and VPS customers, as well as some shared hosting customers. The post says the outage occurred after a Debian OS autoupdate removed essential packages from dedicated, VPS and shared servers. Anderson says DreamHost has now turned off autoupdates and will now manually update Debian after “significant testing.”
“There’s always a balance to be struck between speed, efficiency, security and issue prevention, but this event has shown us that we need to take a different approach,” Anderson said in a statement ...

Technology Wholesaler Ingram Micro UK Offers ThinkGrid Cloud Services to Resellers

This comes three months after ThinkGrid announced that venture capital firm Runa Capital made a “significant investment” in its company, but didn’t disclose the specific amount.
Ingram Micro says this agreement will support its mission to become the leading aggregator of cloud services to the channel and will expand ThinkGrid’s global reach.
Ingram Micro recently launched its Ingram Micro Cloud program to offer channel partners business, sales and technical knowledge for selling and supporting cloud services. This program, combined with its ThinkGrid partnership, both support Ingram Micro’s focus on cloud computing technology.

AWS Storage Gateway Connects On-Premise Appliances to the Cloud

In a long post on the Amazon Web Services blog Wednesday, Amazon launched the AWS Storage Gateway service, a tool for connecting on-premise software appliances with its cloud storage services, making its cloud products more accessible to users currently dealing entirely (or mostly) with on-premise IT.
Amazon says the new AWS Storage Gateway service enables data stored in a customer’s data center to be backed up to Amazon’s S3 storage, as EBS snapshots, which can be treated as backups, and restored to the on-premise hardware when necessary. The stored files can also be accessed as Amazon EBS volumes, which means data can be mirrored between on-premise applications and those based on EC2.

Fujitsu Touts Web Hosting Application of High-Density Server Rack

VMware Launches Online Cloud Solutions Marketplace for Partners, Developers, Clients

Data center operator and hosting firm Quality Technology Services announced on Wednesday that all of the company’s data center facilities have made the transition from auditing their processes and procedures via the SAS 70 auditing standard to the Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16, or SSAE 16.
The SSAE 16 audit is broadly considered a replacement for the SAS 70 report, which many consider to be a flawed reporting system, since data centers are audited against standards and procedures laid out by the company being audited. SSAE 16 measures a facility’s processes against a set of standardized best practices.
