Nordic Presence at Datacentres 2012 Reflects Increased Regional Opportunity

The presence of Nordic countries at Datacentres 2012 (www.datacentreseurope.com) has increased substantially reflecting the increased regional opportunity occurring across the region. Seven large Norwegian data centre projects have recently teamed up in a joint marketing initiative and will be exhibiting at the DataCentres 2012 conference in Nice under the name ”Destination Norway”. The seven initiatives represent diversity, but with common underlying themes of cost-efficient sustainability and access to unlimited renewable power. Industrial sites and large mountain halls are being converted into data centres in order to reduce the environmental impact. The data centres are all located close to a source of renewable power, minimizing the amount of energy lost in transmission. The cool climate, and an almost endless supply of cold water, makes Norway ideally suited for natural free cooling.

PowerSecure's Proprietary IDG® PowerBlock Generator Technology Protects West ...
PowerSecure International, Inc. (Nasdaq: POWR) today reported its proprietary IDG® PowerBlock generator technology operated flawlessly to support a West Coast data center during the recent blackout. PowerSecure’s PowerBlock system carried the full load of the facility for the eleven hour duration of the blackout, protecting the data center’s operations until utility power was restored. The widespread nature and timing of the outage also impacted the ability of the data center to ensure its fuel supply was adequate – and PowerSecure’s employees quickly initiated actions on behalf of the customer to ensure fuel was readily available for any possible outage duration.

    3. ABB Invests in Breakthrough Technology for Data Center Energy Efficiency

ABB Invests in Breakthrough Technology for Data Center Energy Efficiency
DC technology is substantially more energy efficient than traditional alternating current (AC) technology for electrical distribution. DC systems are also less complex, requiring less space and equipment, resulting in considerable additional savings in real estate and capital expenditure. The investment in Brookfield, CT-based Validus complements ABB’s strong technology platform to bolster its entry into the $24 billion market for telecommunications and data center power infrastructure. “DC systems provide data centers with a game-changing advantage in both operational and capital cost savings and we believe they will be widely adopted in this energy-intensive industry,“ said Tarak Mehta, head of ABB’s Low Voltage Products division.
