      First Look at Yahoo’s New Design
      Yahoo has broken ground on its new data center in Lockport, N.Y. The $150 million project features a new design called the Yahoo Computing Coop, which emphasizes free cooling and air flow management. The Yahoo Computing Coops will be metal prefabricated structures measuring 120 feet by 60 feet. The company plans to use five of these structures in its Lockport complex.       Third Outage This Year for Primus Facility
      A Primus Telecommunications data center in Melbourne, Australia lost power Sunday, marking the third outage this year for the facility at 55 King Street. The outage disrupted service for a number of Australian ISPs and phone services. The same facility suffered power outages in February and again in May due to issue in its power infrastructure. After the incident in May, Primus Australia CEO Ravi Bhatia told local IT media that “from 8th May onwards the centre will be beyond bulletproof.”

      Apple Hires eBay Data Center Executive
      Apple has hired a key data center executive from eBay to oversee the expansion of its data center operations, reports Dave Ohara over at the Green Data Center blog. Olivier Sanche will join Apple as Director of Global Data Center Operations, and will presumably oversee the operations of Apple’s new $1 billion data center in North Carolina. eBay has built a number of large (200,000 SF plus) data centers in the western United States, so Sanche has experience with super-sized facilities.
